about me

Leah Nawy is an independent songwriter, producer, performer and mult-instrumentalist based in NYC. Originally from NJ, she has grown up playing rock music at many iconic venues of the Jersey Shore, and currently plays gigs for both her original music and for other artists across Manhattan. With a background in classical music, music theory, and years of playing in bands, Leah has both a refined ear and practical real-life experience in the scene. She received her BFA from The New School with a focus in Jazz Voice Performance, and recently got her Masters in Creative Media and Technology at BerkleeNYC, majoring in Songwriting and Production. A songwriter at heart, Leah's music is built on her love of meaningful lyrics and arrangements that feel good, as heard in her released music. Leah can teach songwriting, voice, piano, guitar, bass, production, and recording!"

Fresh off of over five years straight of higher music education, Leah has taken that experience to create a fun, informed, and effective teaching career amongst children and adults. She has been hired by multiple teaching companies in the NY/CT area, and amassed 20+ students within her first few months as a teacher. Additionally, in my professional career I have orchestrated and lead many band settings and ensembles through my time in high school, college, masters, my own personal live bands, and other bands. I have been hired to come in and listen/advise/lead bands that are not my own due to my strong interpersonal skills and compassionate persona. I absolutely adore children and have high emotional intelligence when it comes to communicating and nurturing their musical journeys effectively.

Growing up on the Jersey Shore, I cut my teeth playing rock shows in iconic local venues — developing a love for live performance, collaboration, and the kind of energy you can only get from making music with others. Over the years, I’ve explored everything from classical music and theory to indie rock, folk, and soul, drawing inspiration from artists like Brittany Howard, Radiohead, Carole King, and so many more. As a Taiwanese-American songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, I care deeply about the emotional side of music — the way a song can feel intimate and powerful at the same time. Whether I’m writing, performing, or teaching, I focus on storytelling, expression, and connection. I’ve studied at The New School (Jazz Voice Performance) and BerkleeNYC (Songwriting & Production), but beyond the degrees, I’ve spent years writing, gigging, and recording — learning how to turn ideas into music that resonates. In lessons, I bring that same creative energy to my students. My goal is to help you not just play music, but connect with it — whether that means writing your first song, learning chords, or recording something you’re proud of. I meet every student where they are, and I love guiding people as they find their sound, build skills, and create with confidence..
